Born from a long-standing passion for good design, Taylor Mundy Raquet believed there was a need in her area for a home decor store that was updated, welcoming, fresh, inspiring and happy.

From growing up in Atlanta across the street from Lisa Newsome, the founder and former editor of Veranda magazine, to art lessons throughout her childhood, and to designing formal clothes during her pre-teen years, she clearly had a passion for art and design from a very young age.

During her adult years spent in Charlottesville she learned to appreciate the historic, during her years living in New York she experienced modern and worldly design, and during her time working for a renowned interior designer in Baltimore and Washington, she was exposed to both the science and the art of the design process.

After a career in fundraising and women’s apparel, this mother of young twins felt there was a look – and feeling – that was missing in her adopted hometown of 20 years, Richmond, Virginia.  One evening, her sister-in-law asked the ultimate question: “what would you name the store if you opened one?”  When Taylor landed on Beckon Home, this became the driving force behind what she wanted to create.  Beckon Home embodies not only how Taylor wants people to feel when they come to the store, but it is how she wants people to feel about their own homes.

Beckon Home is aptly named because it’s welcoming and actually feels like someone’s home. Unlike mass-market stores, Beckon has personality with color, pattern, and layers of good design at a variety of price points. The fact that Taylor, the owner, also supplies original art by local artists, unique small gift items, AND interior design services makes Beckon Home your one-stop home shop.
